Until the 1950's, our product list included such items as calamine compound, cinchona bark (used to make quinine), digitalis leaves (for heart treatment), licorice root and sarsaparilla root. To give you an idea of the breadth of our line from the period, more than 400 items or contained in a product list dated 1944! After World War II, with the advent of synthetic antibiotics such as penicillin, the market for botanical drugs evaporated... As a result, Prentiss began to concentrate its efforts of the formulation of synthetic pesticides, beginning with the early classes such as chlorinated hydrocarbons. One of the most important products we developed, under license from the Wisconsin Alumni Research Foundation (WARF), was the very first non-acute, multi-dose rodenticide, Warfarin ®. This unique product represented a giant leap forward in the safety of rodenticides, especially compared with such other products as strychnine, zinc phosphide, and other inorganic chemical controls. Today, with a broad variety of
PRENTOX® brand advanced formulations, Prentiss continues to serve a variety of
professional pest control markets - PMP, LCO, agriculture and others - through our valued
distributors and formulator customers. We thank you for your support through the past 85 years, and look forward to working with all of you for at least 85 years more!
